So, you've decided to do it yourself eh?
Alright then. Roll up your sleeves and get ready for some work!
Here are a few ways you can try to remove a stump by yourself:
1. Chemicals - There is no such chemical that will rid your lawn of your stump. You can, however, use chemicals to eat at the wood, making it more porous and easier to burn.
2. Fire - Before you go dumping gasoline on your stump and setting it ablaze, you should know that in most cases, fire is a very slow process for removing a stump. Stumps flare out when underground and the low oxygen environment can make it difficult to burn a stump out of the ground. If you're patient and willing to endure many fires over your stump - we suggest creating an oven over your stump and burning sections at a time.
3. Accelerated Decomposition - If you have a considerable amount of patience, you may consider assisting nature in naturally decomposing your stump. This process will take years but it does work. Start by drilling some 1 inch holes in your stump and adding high nitrogen fertilizer, like cow manure. Insulate the area with a tarp or cover it with hay, or the like, and keep it damp. After the first year, use carbon based additives like sugar in place of manure.
4. Get a Bigger Ax - Good ole' fashion labor will always do the trick. Hopefully, you had children approximately 10-18 years before you had your tree removed! You can dig your stump out with pick axes shovels and axes. We recommend digging around the stump and eliminating roots as you remove your stump.
